Insanity

Previous

This quilt measures 38 inches square. It started as an appliqué quilt, using both my tried-and-true-favorite reverse appliqué technique, and my first try at hand/needleturn appliqué. The vase and flowers are hand-appliqued. When I'd finished them, I decided I didn't like the technique so finished the background with intensive (insane) quilting. The "ghost" appliqués are reminiscent of Baltimore Album blocks, but just hand-sketched then quilted with fine silk thread in different colors. The grid on the green border is 1/2-inch. The motifs stand out because of the wool batting I used; it's not trapunto.
